Getting started

How to buy and manage a domain with Eyivo

A domain is your own web address, such as yourbusiness.com. You can buy one in Eyivo and show your website on it without changing any technical settings. The domain is registered in your name.

Find a domain

Open My domains in the left menu and type the name you want, for example your business name. You do not need to type www or the extension; Eyivo checks every extension it sells for you.

The best match appears first with its price for the first year and the price to renew it each year. Other options appear below it. Taken names are marked so you can try another one.

If Eyivo cannot check a name at that moment, it says so instead of guessing. Try again a minute later.

Buy your domain

Select Get this domain. Check the spelling carefully: a registered domain cannot be changed or refunded once registration has started.

Enter the domain owner details. The domain is registered in your name, so use your real name and address. Your street, city and postal code come from your billing details.

Hiding your personal details from public domain records is selected for you. Keep it on unless you have a reason to publish your details.

If you do not have a website plan yet, you can add one in the same payment. A domain needs a website plan to show your website.

After you pay

Registration starts right after payment. It usually takes a few minutes. My domains shows Setting up until the domain is ready, and Eyivo emails you when it is.

The domain registry may email you to confirm your email address. Open that message and confirm it, otherwise the domain can be paused.

If a domain cannot be registered, for example because someone else registered it a moment earlier, Eyivo checks it and refunds that domain in full. Anything else in the same order is not affected.

Show your website on your domain

In My domains, choose one of your websites next to the domain and select Connect. You can also open a website, go to Settings, then Website address, and connect a domain you bought at Eyivo with one click.

Eyivo prepares the domain for you. It usually works within an hour. You do not need to change any settings.

A domain bought from a website’s Website address page connects to that website automatically.

Each connected domain uses one domain connection from your website plan. If none is left, Eyivo offers a plan.

Renew your domain

Domains are not renewed automatically. Eyivo emails you 60, 30, 7 and 1 days before the renewal deadline.

Select Renew next to the domain in My domains and pay. The new end date appears when the renewal is done.

If you miss the deadline, the domain expires. For a while you can still get it back, at a higher price, with the same Renew button.

Use your own nameservers

Nameservers decide who manages your domain's DNS records. A domain bought in Eyivo uses Eyivo nameservers, so Eyivo can set up your website on it for you.

To use another DNS provider, select Nameservers next to the domain in My domains, choose My own nameservers, and enter the 2 to 4 nameservers your provider gives you.

With your own nameservers, you add all records yourself at that provider. If the domain already shows one of your websites, the page lists the records to add first, so your website keeps working.

To go back, choose Eyivo nameservers (recommended) and save. Eyivo keeps your earlier records, so a connected website works again once the change has spread.

A nameserver change can take up to 48 hours to reach everyone.

Use a domain you already have

If you bought your domain somewhere else, open your website, go to Settings, then Website address, and add your domain. Eyivo shows the records to add at your domain provider and checks them for you.
