Ads: show your ad network's ads in your website's sections

The Ads plugin lets you show ads from any ad network, such as AdSense or Ad Manager, inside the sections you already use. You save each ad code your network gives you as an ad slot, then choose that slot above a rich-text field in the page editor. The field keeps its own text, which comes back whenever you remove the ad.

Set up ad slots

  • Open your website, then Plugins. Under Available plugins, install Ads.
  • Open Ad slots from the website menu and choose Add slot.
  • Give the slot a name you will recognise, such as Sidebar banner. Visitors never see it.
  • Paste the code your ad network gives you for this slot. It runs exactly as pasted on your live website.
  • A website can have up to 50 ad slots. They count toward your database storage.

Show an ad in a section

In the page editor, every rich-text field has "Show in this field" above it. Choose one of your ad slots to show that ad instead of the field's text. The text stays visible but cannot be edited while the ad is chosen, and it comes back as soon as you choose Text.

  • A choice on a section's rich-text field applies to every language of the page.
  • Inside lists you add items to, such as questions and answers, multi-line item fields have the same choice. There it applies to the language you are editing only, because each language has its own copy of the list.
  • Save the section draft, then use Preview draft to see where the ad will appear. Previews show a grey box with the slot's name instead of the ad.
  • Publish the page to show the ad on your live website.
  • If you delete an ad slot, every field that showed it shows its own text again.

Reserve the ad's space

  • Height on phones is used below 768 pixels wide, Height on larger screens from 768 pixels.
  • Take the heights from your ad network's unit size, for example 250 on phones and 90 on larger screens.
  • If you fill only one height, it is used at every width. If you leave both empty, no space is reserved.
  • Reserved space stays empty when your network has no ad to show.

Before your ads go live

  • Ads run on your live website only when it has its own domain. On your Eyivo address, fields show their own text.
  • To see where your ads will appear, sign in and open your website on its Eyivo address. In the bar at the bottom, choose Show ad positions: each ad shows as a grey box with its slot's name. Choose it again to show the text. Visitors never see these boxes.
  • Ad scripts run with the same access as the rest of the page, so they can read what visitors type into a form on that page. Mention your ad partners in your privacy policy.
  • Ad networks forbid ads placed so close to buttons or links that visitors click them by accident. Choose fields away from your forms and buttons.
  • Ad networks check the ads.txt file on your root domain. If your website uses a subdomain such as shop.example.com, the ads.txt file belongs on example.com.
