Plugins: turning them off, uninstalling them and keeping their data

Plugins add features to your website, such as the quote, booking and contact forms and the spam protection behind them. The Plugins page in each website's settings lists them. This guide explains what each status means, which plugins you can change, and how long their data is kept after you uninstall one.

What the statuses mean

  • Available: an approved plugin your website does not have yet. Install adds it, and its pages appear in the website menu.
  • Active: the plugin works on your website. Its forms show on the pages where you placed them.
  • Turned off: the plugin does not show on your website, but its settings and form submissions stay exactly as they are, with no time limit. Turn it on again whenever you like.
  • Uninstalled: the plugin is removed from your website. Its data is kept for 30 days, then deleted. The plugin is listed under Uninstalled plugins until then.

Plugins you cannot turn off or uninstall

  • Required plugins, such as Human Verification, protect your website and its forms from spam. Eyivo keeps them on for every website.
  • Plugins used by your theme power forms the theme shows, such as the contact page form. They stay installed while you use that theme. After you switch to a theme that does not use them, you can turn them off or uninstall them.
  • A plugin that another active plugin depends on cannot be changed until that other plugin is turned off.

The Plugins page says why a plugin cannot be changed, next to the plugin.

Uninstalling a plugin and the 30 days its data is kept

Before you uninstall a plugin, Eyivo shows what will be kept: its form submissions, its forms and their earlier versions, and its settings. If one of its forms is placed on your pages, the confirmation names those pages, because the form stops showing there.

  • The data is kept for 30 days from the day you uninstall the plugin. The Plugins page shows the exact date.
  • Seven days before that date, the website owner receives a reminder email.
  • Reinstall the plugin within the 30 days and everything comes back: its settings, its forms and every submission. Forms you placed on pages show again.
  • After 30 days, the data is deleted for good and cannot be recovered.
  • To delete the data sooner, use Delete data now next to the uninstalled plugin. You confirm once more, because this cannot be undone.

Uninstalling does not delete anything at once. Only Delete data now, or the end of the 30 days, deletes the data.

Plugin data and your storage

Plugin settings, forms and form submissions are stored in your website's database, so they count toward the database limit on your Account plan page. While an uninstalled plugin's data is kept, it still counts. Deleting the data, with Delete data now or at the end of the 30 days, frees the space at once.
